How to Solve a Linear Equation: For noobs
In this (fun) tutorial you will learn how to solve a linear equation! Pay attention, noob!
So, let's get started.
Pretend Mrs. Davis gives you a really, really hard problem; she doesn't explain how to do it, and you're a noob so you don't know how to either
:
Find the value of x:
x - 4 = -5
It's really, really hard! (if you're a noob)
So, noob, in an linear equation like this, you first need to remove all the numbers from the side with the variable so you can get number of the variable by itself. In equations with more than one step, use the PEMDAS backwards, as SADMEPS ( sad meps, get it?
).
Removing the numbers is easy, just cancel them out. If it adds a number, then subtract the same number on both sides to cancel it out. If it subtracts, than add. Same with multiplying or dividing. Self-explained, even for a noob.
So, to solve the problem you need to get rid of the -4 by adding 4 on both sides. This will cancel out the 4 and get rid of it. Then you can have x by itself:

So x = -1, yay!
Let's do another fun problem!
Find the value of y:
6y + 8 = 32
First subtract 8 from both sides:

Then divide both sides by 6.

And the answer is x = 4!
In this lesson you learned how to solve a linear equation, for noobs! Now if you learned something, pat yourself on the back for not being a noob anymore, if not, go over the lesson again, or comment if you have any questions!
That's it folks!

Looks like you're not old enough to know. You will learn in 7th grade.

Re: How to Solve a Linear Equation: For noobs
I bet like a large chunk of 8th graders can't even solve a linear equasion still.
